Here’s a quick guide on how I use my GH5s camera as a webcam. Let me start by saying this setup is expensive and would cost $3,000+. I had an extra camera laying around so it wasn’t that much for me to do.
The benefits include:
- Ability to adjust the colors and lighting
- Natural background blur
- Crisp and clear video
To get started here is what’s needed:
- Mirrorless camera with an HDMI output
- HDMI cable
- Capture card
- USB-A 3.1 to USB-C cable
- USB-C port on your pc or laptop
- Subscription to Manycam
First set up your camera. I have mine on a tripod.
Plug in the HDMI cable to the camera.
Plug the other end of the HDMI to the capture card.
Plug the cable USB-A side into the capture card
Plug the cable USB-C side into your pc or laptop
Download Manycam: ManyCam | Live video software & Virtual Webcam
With Manycam open you’ll need to add a video source. Click the + icon in the center then choose cameras and then your camera. Mine is named “FHD Capture.”
You can adjust the colors at the top right. Choose 30 fps and 720p.
Login into your doxy.me dashboard. If you haven’t already, give access to your camera.
Click the 3 dots in the upper left of your preview then click device settings.
Under camera settings look for ManyCam Virtual Webcam and select that.
You are now ready to use your mirrorless camera as a webcam!
This is not an exhaustive guide and I’d really only recommend it if you already have a mirrorless camera laying around! Happy to answer any additional questions.
