Text notification includes patient name

I have providers that want us to stop using the text notifications that patients are waiting in rooms because the text includes the patient name being sent. This does not seem HIPPA compliant. Am I correct that we should be turning those off in order to truly remain HIPPA compliant?

In case you have not continued to use notifications, I thought you’d appreciate knowing that text and email notifications only send the patient’s first name. This change occurred near the end of 2020. To be more specific, whatever the first word is that a patient types in to the check-in field, that’s what will be included in your notification. So John Smith would send “John” only. But if they put JS, it would send “JS” because there is no space between the initials.
