Using from Dubai?

Hi! I’m an American psychotherapist who will be spending a few months in Dubai. I’m wondering if anyone has experience using from Dubai with patients in a country outside of Dubai? My patients are in the US. Thanks in advance!

Hi, and welcome! I believe I’ve spoken to a few groups and that had clients traveling to Dubai, so they used to meet with them while traveling. I heard it worked well as long as they have a stable internet connection. Happy to jump on a few test calls with you to confirm.

This is such a good question. UAE does have unique internet censoring including Skype, as far as I am aware. However I would be mindful of practicing in UAE according to their medical and pharmaceutical practices, as practices that are “against the perceived moral values” may come under scrutiny.

Please do come back and share your experience and advice!

I would highly recommend getting a good VPN service as this would ascertain privacy. You can use a US server. I like Express VPN and have used it when I travel abroad. I never use unsecured hotel Wi Fi. My understanding is that VPN protects but may be I am paranoid! I will use my phone hot spot. It is far safer. If you bought international coverage it is not expensive.

I would advise against both using hotel wifi and vpn anywhere in the world as shared networks decrease security. I would recommend only using a private network from both you and the client’s side for any consultation you intend to be as confidential as possible.
